Project Runway Jewelry Challenge Winner Announced

We'd like to announce the winner of the Project Runway Jewelry Making Challenge. For 12 weeks, SRAJD members made fabulous creations inspired by the PR themes. How fun it was to follow along, watching the show and then seeing the jewelry that went along with the designers’ clothing. Although the voting was close because we had so many great jewelry designers to choose from, the admins of the SRAJD facebook group felt that Nohline Sharp L'Ecuyer's creations perfectly embraced and captured the spirit of the competition.

Thank you, everyone, for playing along week after week, looking at what the challenge was going to be and then creating a piece of jewelry to fit the theme.

Project Runway Jewelry Challenge Week 12 Results

Welcome to the results of the final challenge.  I can't tell you how happy I am with the designs of the SRAJD members in the past twelve weeks as we journeyed together to push our limits of creativity following along with Project Runway.

On November 1st, we will be announcing the winner of the Rings and Things gift certificate.  The prize will go to the person who the SRAJD administrative staff feels best exemplified the spirit of the contest by using the weekly challenges to push themselves out of their comfort zone and into new jewelry making territory.

Week twelve's challenge was to create a butterfly-inspired avant-garde piece of jewelry or to make something inspired by a design from the Project Runway episode (see the clothing designs here).

Here are the entries for the week 12 episode:

Grace Gipson: "For my second entry in Week 12, the Avant Garde design part of the challenge, I made a matching color orange with turquoise necklace and earring set. The butterfly image is shown on the right of the dress (below the Project Runway Logo). My necklace and earrings are shown on the bottom right. This has been a wonderful challenge and I want to thank Laura for hosting the 12 weeks. Applause, applause!"

Grace Gipson: "I made an actual 'butterfly' necklace from beads for last week in the colors of the dress that Dom made this week for her butterfly challenge. The butterfly that inspired me this week was the one drawn by Dom for the challenge which is attached. Then Dom made her butterfly inspiration in the colors of my butterfly last week and Helen made her 'Re Do' challenge second piece in the colors that Dom was going to use. Do I used Dom's butterfly and Helen's design!"

Grace Gipson: "My inspiration is the dress that Dom made. This piece is designed as a necklace but I would wear it as a hair piece to compliment Dom's personal textile. I just loved her design. Little did I know that Week 12 would be inspired by butterflies. I was a week early with my Monarch Butterfly necklace."

Maxine Booth: "I made this to go with Bradon's noodle dress, for the gentle colors with glimmer and hints of glitz amongst the pearls."

Nohline L'Ecuyer: "Inspired by the designs this week and the idea of the butterfly coming from the crysalis, I made this neck piece from glass to represent flowers and wire wrapping. Thanks Laura for a really great challenge! Thoroughly enjoyed myself!"
Nohline L'Ecuyer: "Inspired by the shape and colors of Doms outfit, these "flowers" can draw in the butterfly. The neckwire is made from African beads accented with handmade bass beads to match."

Project Runway Challenge -- Week 12: Butterfly Inspired Avant Garde

The theme for week 12 was to create a butterfly-inspired avant garde look... and to take someone's previous failure and rework it.

Bradon won the challenge with his noodle dress:

Dom was a close second with what they kept referring to as the melding of three fabrics but Mom and I could only see two fabrics there... what do we know.

Those two will show at Fashion Week.  The three remaining designers will create collections, but not all will show at Fashion Week.

There offerings for week twelve were as follows...

Helen

Justin

And Alexandria

Can you make a butterfly-inspired avant garde look?  I hope to see it!  You can also choose one of these designs as your inspiration for a week 12 piece of jewelry.

Submit your entry here (preferably by next Thursday, but not crucial). Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Project Runway Jewelry Challenge Week 11 Results

Week eleven's challenge was to create something something having to do with making your own textile or to make something inspired by a design from the Project Runway episode (see the clothing designs here).

Here are the entries for the week (remember, you can still submit even after the deadline!):

Grace Gipson: "My inspiration is the dress that Dom made. This piece is designed as a necklace but I would wear it as a hair piece to compliment Dom's personal textile. I just loved her design. Little did I know that Week 12 would be inspired by butterflies. I was a week early with my Monarch Butterfly necklace."

Nohline L'Ecuyer: "Inspired by the color and design of the winners fabric and a really tacky pair of used slippers up for auction on Ebay, I choose to make a pink leopard interchangeable ring top. :-)"

Joyce Ingram: "For my textile design I have created these lovely easy to wear earrings that feature blended needle felted hearts and lovely lapis lazuli."

I hope you join us for the next runway theme... the design your own textile challenge!

And if you end up designing something for the "Biggest Fan" (or any previous ) challenge, any time during the airing of season 12, submit it here.

Project Runway Challenge -- Week 11: Create Your Own Textile

For week eleven, the designers got to create their own textile inspired by their assigned "young person who is making a difference". Then make whatever outfit from that textile.

Let's start with the top designers for the week.

The winner was Dom.

The judges also liked Bradon's look.

And Helen's look.

Alexandria was in the middle, thus safe.

The bottom three looks included Justin.

And a double elimination of the bottom two which were Alexander.

And Kate.

So c'mon jewelry designers! Think about a piece of jewelry based on the idea of creating your own textile.  Or... make a piece of jewelry inspired by one of the Project Runway designs for week eleven.

Submit your entry here (preferably by next Thursday, but not crucial). Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Project Runway Jewelry Challenge Week 10 Results

Week ten's challenge was to create something for your biggest fan. SRAJD members had the option of interpreting the theme as they like or making something inspired by a design from the Project Runway show as inspiration (see the clothing designs here).

Here are the entries for the week (remember, you can still submit even after the deadline!):

Nohline L'Ecuyer: "This is a project I started maybe 3 years ago and I just got tired of hammering all the links flat! It is a self invented chainmaille design in brass with a handmade clasp to go with Helen's dress."

Judith C. Williamson

Grace Gipson: "It was Bradon's design that caught my eye. Lucky lady, she was stunning. So I upscaled something old for her new look."

Pamela Traub: "I think this bracelet would go really well with Kate's Dress."

Laura Bracken: "I like to think my biggest fan would like the same kind of jewelry as I do.  A lot of what I wear is jewelry that can stay on month after month suffering all kinds of abuse like sleeping with it, showering with it, exercising at the gym, using the swimming pool or going to the beach.  This kind of hardy jewelry appeals to me so that's what I made for my biggest fan.  A little copper in bronze square pendant on a sterling silver chain."

Joyce Ingram: "Lots of lovely colour set in an unusually styled necklace."

I hope you join us for the next runway theme... the design your own textile challenge!

And if you end up designing something for the "Biggest Fan" (or any previous ) challenge, any time during the airing of season 12, submit it here.

Project Runway Challenge -- Week 10: Designing for Your Biggest Fan

For week ten, the designers were instructed to create runway looks for selected PR fans. I do empathize with having to listen to someone's wishes while still trying to make sure the piece represents you as a designer. Not all of us can walk that walk well.

Let's start with the top designers for the week.

Helen earned her fourth win with this look:

The other two high placing designs were from Justin...

... and Bradon

In the middle (safe) were Kate...

... and Dom.

The bottom three looks included Alexandria...
... Alexander...

... and Ken (who was ousted).

So c'mon jewelry designers!  What would you make if all you had to do was make a piece of jewelry for your ultimate fan?

Or, use one of the above runway looks as your inspiration.

Submit your entry here (preferably by next Thursday, but not crucial). Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Project Runway Jewelry Challenge Week 9 Results

Week nine's challenge was to create something for the modern southern woman. SRAJD members had the option interpreting the theme as they like or making something inspired by a design from the Project Runway show as inspiration (see the clothing designs here).

Here are the entries for the week (remember, you can still submit even after the deadline!):

Lori Mlinarcik: "Coca Cola is referred to as the 'soft drink of the south'. Even soft drinks that are not Coca Cola are still referred to as Coca Cola. This is a vintage Coca Cola bottle bracelet with sterling findings and a sterling box style clasp with a safety on each side. Cool."

Nohline L'Ecuyer: "My image of a southern woman is in pearls and gloves, but that's not modern. So I made some chandelier style earrings with pearls - the old and the new. I twisted some square wire in parts to form the links."

Grace Gipson: "I loved Kate's look and would buy it in a heartbeat to wear to a southern bash! Love the colors expressed."

Laura Bracken: "Kate's outfit used one of my favorite color combinations so I had no choice but to make some simple matching earrings."

I hope you join us for the next runway theme... the modern southern woman challenge!

And if you end up designing something for the SHOE (or any previous ) challenge, any time during the airing of season 12, submit it here.
